MARYLAND TOBACCO
"The Art of Baling Becomes A Reality"
over the course of history. Maryland
tobacco has found its way to market in a
variety of forms. From barrels to burlap
sheets, to tied leaves. Now, a new
method has been designed which makes
packed tobacco more manageable.
A baling box machine can be used
which puts up tobacco in 22 inch bales
that weigh 75 to 80 lbs. These can easily
be stacked or stored.
The basic machine is a three-bin model
where tobacco is laid in according to
grade. The tobacco is compressed into
bales by use of an hydraulic cylinder
powered by air. A jack type system can
be used for those who may not have
electric available. After the bale is
compressed, it must be tied with cotton
twine.
The use of the three-bin press allows
more tabacco to be processed in less
time.
