Ida’s
Notebook

November is hunting season.
We’ve had quite a few fellows
walking through our fields and
woods recently. This year there
are plenty of rabbits and squirrels
but few, if any, pheasants. We’ve
been too busy to hunt at home, but
one hunter gave us a skinned
rabbit.
Not everyone hunts in the fields.
Quite a few hunt from boats and
canoes as they hope to get wild
ducks or one of the seven wild
geese that were raised in our

One of these hunting expeditions
turned into quite an expensive
episode for two'canoeists. You see,
these two fellows upset in the
Conestoga and lost their guns. One
cold evening when they walked up
through the meadow to our house
in their “almost birthday suits” I
was shocked. Swimming at this
time of year did not make sense.
After repeated diving over several
days, including help from
professional scuba divers, they
finally recovered their precious
