James T. Parlett, of Airville,
swept the Chester White com
petition.
In the Hampshires, Strawbridge
and McCleary, of Stewartstown,
took both boar honors and the
reserve champion gilt. Smith’s
Hog Farm had the champion gilt.
Jeff Wippel, of Ashville, Ohio,
had three of the four in Poland
China competition, including the
champion boar and champion and
reserve champion gilt. The reserve
champion boar went to Rocky
Acres Farm, New Tripoli; while
Bonnie Wessner was premier
exhibitor.
In the Spots, Greg Christman
Jr., of Chambersburg, had the
champion boar; while Smith’s Hog
Farm had the champion gilt. Both
reserves were shown by Parlett.
In Yorkshire competition,
Strawbridge and McCleary had the
champion gilt and the reserve
champion boar. Champion boar
was shown by Franklin Feeser,
Taneytown, Md.; and reserve gilt
by Wilson and Rehman, of New
Freedom.
Only in the Berkshire com
petition did four different
exhibitors win top honors and three
of these came from out of state
attracted by the special sale.

Kooker has been appointed
assistant farm management
specialist for the Cooperative
Extension Service at the
University of Delaware, effective
Nov. 1. The position was created
with the support of a one-year
federal crop insurance grant
Kooker’s assignment will be to
hold educational meetings and
short courses on risk management
for farmers. He will be working out
of the University of Delaware
College of Agricultural Sciences in
Newark.
Before joining the extension
service, Kooker served the State of
Delaware for 7% years as
executive assistant secretary of
agriculture.
