Umatowski, who is assisting
Hawk, has prepared a preliminary
report of the Georgetown results
which is available at county ex
tension offices in Newark, Dover
and Georgetown
According to Umatowski, 113
different hybrids representing 20
companies were involved in this
year’s corn variety trials. All
hybrids were planted at
Georgetown April 20 in con
ventionally tilled Evesboro loamy
sand. Two hundred pounds per
Hybrid trial results available
acre of Agway 10-20-20 corn starter
was applied with the planter.
Supplemental nitrogen was ap
plied as ammonium nitrate when
corn was in the five- to six-leaf
growth stage, for a total of 200
pounds of actual nitrogen per acre.
All plantings were irrigated
throughout the growing season.
For analysis, varieties were
divided into five maturity groups.
The Georgetown yields ranged as
follows; Group I - 167.3 to 96.3
bushels (125.6 bushel average);

(141.1 bushel average); Group IV -
168.8 to 130.5 (148.1 bushel
average): and Group V - 190.2 to
157.0 (157.0 bushel average).
Yields showed a different
company entry leading in each
maturity. Sixteen of the 20 com
panies represented had an entry
among the top five hybrids in at
least one maturity group.

Energy Recovery Unit
The De Laval 1 " Della-
Therm energy recovery
unit is one of the most
practical ways yet
devised to recover milk
heat energy This
advanced-design unit
not only creates free hot
water from an otherwise
wasted resource, but
does so without slowing
milk cooling rate or
placing an extra burden
on the refrigeration sys
tem In fact, in many
instances, this unit can
help the milk cooling
system operate with less
energy And the Della-
Therm's unique tube
by-tube heat exchanger
will recover sufficient
energy to heat about two gallons of hot water
per day per cow being milked
