    LEWISBURG - The Union
County 4-H Achievement Night
was held recently at the Lewisburg
Middle School with 75 club
members, leaders, parents, and
friends in attendance.
The program Master of
Ceremonies was Dave Cotner,
Cowan Agriculture Club. Exten
sion home economist Natalie
Snyder, presented awards to the
following 4-H members for their
participation in the Regional Teen
Conference; Kelly Showers, Alan
and Anthony Dietrich, Union
County Dairy Club; Steve Fletcher
and Jeff Baker, Cowan Ag. Club;
Susan Beck, Spring Garden 4-H
Club; Mary Beth Temple and
Angie Owens, Buffalo Valley
Community Club; Dawn Fox and
Jean Einsig; Green Pride 4-H
Club.
Regional Demonstration awards
went to Nichole Weikel, Debbie
Carter, Heath Croll, Melinda Poe
and Becky Carter, My-T-Fine 4-H
Club. Fashion Revue Certificates
were given to Jean Einsig and
Fawn Smith, Green Pride 4-H
Club; Allison Beckley, Mifflinburg
Green Clovers; Andrea Heint

The regional and state Horse and
Dairy Certificates were presented

Union Co. 4-H'ers honored at Achievement Night
4-H Club attended the Regional
Horse Show. State Horse Show
participants were Sarah
Goulstone, Kelly Wenning and
Valerie Soars. District Dairy Show
participants were Barry Spangler
and Gerald Boop. Boop was the
only Union County Dairy Club
member to go to the State Dairy
Show.
Certificates were presented to
State Leadership Congress par
ticipants. They were Libby Hams,
Valley Riders 4-H Club; Angie
Owens and Mary Beth Temple,
Buffalo Valley 4-H Club, Kelly
Showers and Dave Cotner. Steve
Fletcher received a certificate for
participation in the 1984 State
Achievement Days at Penn State
University.
4-H Camp Counselors who
received recognition were Chris
Falck and Steve Fletcher, Union
County Riflery Club and Kelly
Showers. Leaders who attended
Camp Brule’ were Carol Nunn,
Green Pride Club, Marcia Irvin,
Mifflinburg Summer Smiles; Jim
and Bonnie Barrett, Black Run 4-H
Club.
4-H recordkeeping is an im
portant part of club work. Junior 4-
H members who completed a
Junior Achievement Record form
were recognized. Awards were
presented by Kay Showers,
secretary of the Union County
Advisory Committee to; Heath
Croll, Ist place, 8-year-old age
group. Nine-year-old winners were
Nichole Showers, Busy Bees 4-H
Club, Ist; Danielle Stewart, Green
Pride Club, 2nd; and Danielle

Kelly Showers gave the
highlights of his week-long trip to
Citizenship Washington Focus in
Washington, D.C. this past sum
mer. Members age 16 and older
who are interested in their national
government and how it functions
are eligible to attend this event.
Kate Humbert, Union County 4-H
Agent, presented a certificate to
Alma Kieffer, who received
honorable mention in a statewide
4-H poster contest. A certificate
was also given to Alice Wilson for
participation in the poster contest.
Humbert gave National Award
pins to Kelly Showers and Susan
Beck. “I Dare You” Awards
sponsored by the Danforth
Foundation were presented to
Steve Fletcher and Jean Einsig.
York County 4-H Council
The York County 4-H County
Council meeting was held on Oct. 3
at the home of Rhonda Jacoby.
Before the meeting there was a
costume contest, a Halloween
story and a crawl through a
Halloween maze.
The Lewisburg Echoing Hoof
beats were welcomed as new
members. Melissa Trostle
received congratulations for
receiving the York Fair 4-H
Award.
The Council donated $lOO for
awards at County Achievement

year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Ben Tjalma of Phillipsburg, was
selected as the alternate.
All the contestants will be
available throughout the year for
public appearances. Any school

4-H Leaders were then given
recognition for their volunteer
services as 4-H leaders for the
year. Each leader received a
certificate and a 4-H lapel pin or tie
tack. Special recognition was
given to two 25-year leaders, Viola
and Gilbert Kreamer, leaders of
the Valley Eiders 4-H Club. Each
received a 4-H pin with an emerald
stone. Ida Mae Hartman, Cowan
Community Club, was recognized
for 10 years as a 4-H leader and
Gerald Stark, Kelly-ites, was given
special recognition for serving five
years as a 4-H leader.
Kay Taylor, a member of the
Pennsylvania Farmers
Association, displayed Penn Best
Products that Union County 4-H
members will be selling as a
countywide fund raiser during the
first two weeks in November.
Night on Oct. 11, and $25 to the
Trust Fund.
Members were encouraged to
promote 4-H during National 4-H
Week. Installation of 1985 officers
followed the meeting.

Dairy Princess
LAMBERTVILLE, N.J. - The
1984-85 New Jersey State Dairy
Princess is Cindy Brenner of
Ringoes. She is the 22-year-old
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald
Brenner.
Cindy works for the Hopewell
Veterinary Group as a veterinary
assistant and attends Trenton
State College parttime. She has
been employed on the Richard
Gulick dairy farm and has been an
active 4-H Club member.
