WYALUSING - Michael C.
Kilmer, representative of the
Kilmer Insurance Agency,
recently presented a grant of $3,000
to the Northern Tier Region 4-H
Organization.
The grant was funded by the
Kilmer Insurance Agency and the
CIGNA Insurance Companies.
CIGNA, through its subsidiary,
Insurance- Company of North
America, has been a supporter of
4-H programs for many years.
The Kilmer Agency is a firm
which has specialized in insuring
dairy farms for the past ten years.

The check for $3,000 was
presented to Bradford County
Agricultural Extension Director
Jake Guffy, last Friday, in keeping
with National 4-H Week, which is
celebrated Oct. 7 - Oct. 13.
According to Guffy, the money
will be used to expand 4-H Dairy
programs in the Northern Tier
Counties of Bradford,
Susquehanna, Sullivan, Tioga and
Wyoming. A portion of the money
will also be used for the Northeast
District Dairy Competition, which
includes Potter, Wayne, Luzerne,
Lackawanna and Columbia

Guffy commented that the funds
will be used for activities which
will encourage young people to
pursue dairy farming as a
livelihood.
“We are very appreciative of
this gift,” said Guffy. "It stopped
us in our tracks when we first
heard about it.” He went on to say
that a donation of this size had not
been seen on the county level in 4-H
history.

Dairy Princess, Wendy Lament
and 4-H member, Daniel Hop
paugh.
Wendy, 17, the daughter of dairy
farmers Wayne and Barbara
Lamont, Troy, has been active in 4-
H for the past nine years. She has
accumulated many awards,
among them Grand Champion.

Dan Hoppaugh, 12, the son of
Columbia Cross Roads farmers’
Raymond and Joann Hoppaugh, is
a member of the Leona 4-H &
Dairy Club. Likewise, he has
brought many 4-H awards home in
the last four years, including a
Junior Champion prize.
According to Bradford County 4-
H Agent, Levetta Comstock, ap
proximately 1500 Bradford County
youths participate in 4-H.
Nationally, Comstock said, over
4.7 million young people are part of
the 4-H program.
