UNIVERSITY PARK - Five staff members have been named to the College of Agriculture faculty at Penn State. They include: Stephen E. Fairweather has been named assistant professor of forest resource management. His responsibilities include teaching in the areas of forest biometrics and forest management along with research in forest management planning systems. His ap pointment became effective Aug. 1 A Penn State graduate, Fair weather holds a bachelor’s degree m forest science and a Ph.D. in forest resources. He has a master’s degree in forest resources from the University of Minnesota. Fairweather is a member if Xi Sigma Phi and Alpha Zeta honorary fraternities. Larry E. Jenkins has been named associate professor of agricultural economics. An Ex tension economist in farm management, Jenkins will specialize in farm taxation. His appointment became effective Aug. 1. A graduate of the University of Missoun-Columbia, Jenkins holds a bachelor of science degree in agricultural education and a master’s degree in agriculture extension. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Kentucky in agricultural economics. Jenkins is a member of Gamma Sigma Delta and the Southern Agricultural Economics Association. He was employed by the Agricultural Extension Service in Missouri for 20 years. Michael G. Rush has been named assistant professor of agriculture and extension education. Rush will also work with new vocational ag teachers in the area of teacher effectiveness. His appointment became effective Aug. 1. Rush earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in agricultural education from the University of Idaho. He holds a Ph.D. in vocational and technical education from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Rush is a member of the American Association of Teacher Educators in Agriculture, the National Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association, Omicron Tau Theta, and Phi Kappa Phi. William T. McSweeney has been Ag College honored PORTLAND, Ore. - The Pennsylvania State University College of Agriculture has received the R.J. Reynolds Honor Award for Excellence in Teaching and Technology, according to state Agriculture Secretary Penrose Hallowed. The national award, co sponsored by Reynolds and the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture (NASDA), “recognizes the College of Agriculture for its outstanding efforts in the area of turfgrass management and contribution to Pennsylvania agriculture, our number one industry,” said Hallowell, who is president-elect of NASDA. Presentation of the award is based upon experience and success in exhibiting at the Pennsylvania Farm Show and other agriculture-related events held at the Complex during the course of the year. He has participated in the Organization of the American States’ Multinational Program in Food Science Technology and Engineering from the regular training program at the University of California.
