QUARRYVILLE - The Com
munity Fair Directors announce
the opening of the 35th Southern
Lancaster County Community
Fair on Wednesday. The Fair
continues through Friday.
Activities begin at 3 p.m.
Tuesday when exhibits will be
accepted for competition. Exhibits
may be entered Tuesday from 3
p.m. to 10 p.m. and Wednesday
until 10 a.m. If you have grown,
raised or made something since
last year’s fair bring that product
to the fair and exhibit it. We en
courage you to participate as an
exhibitor in the fair.
Most exhibits will be judged
Wednesday afternoon. You can
enter exhibits in the following
departments; Dairy; Beef Cattle;
Sheep; Swine; Rabbits; Forage
and Grain; Vegetables; Fruit and
Nuts; Home and Dairy Products
which includes Baked Products
and Canned or Dried Products;
Floral; Needlecraft including
Clothing and Needlework; and Art,

Fair opens Wednesday at Quarryville
Photography, and Crafts.
The Food Committee prepares
full course meals and individual
food items each day in the Hoff
man Building. Chicken Pot Pie
dinners are featured all day
Wednesday. Thursday’s luncheon
special is Beef Stew followed by a
Ham Supper from 4-8 p.m.
Friday’s special is Hot Roast Beef
Sandwich. Also, a large variety of
delicious quality food items are
available at our numerous food
stands located throughout the
fairgrounds.
Highlights of Wednesday’s ac
tivities include judging dairy cattle
at 11 a.m., the Parade at 6:45 p.m.,
and the tug-of-war competition at
8:30 p.m. Thursday will feature the
tractor driving contest at 10 a.m.,
judging dairy cattle at 11 a.m.,
judging swine at 3 p.m., judging
baby beef at 6:30 p.m., the Baby
Parade at 7 p.m., and the Solanco
Fair Olympics at 8:15 p.m.

p.m., games for Ist to 6th grades at
6:30 p.m. and special en
tertainment featuring Wings of
Bluegrass at 8 p.m. An expanded
Petting Zoo sponsored by the
Solanco FFA is open each day.
The Fair encourages the
production and marketing of high
quality products. It should be the
desire of every community
resident to produce quality
products during the year and
exhibit them at the Fair. Our
Community Fair serves the
producer and community well as a
media whereby our agricultural
productivity, individual personal
talents, and cultural wealth are
displayed and recognized. The
three day educational exhibition is
free to the public. Commercial
exhibits display to the urban as
well as the rural citizenry the
latest technological ad
vancements.
