To help with these needs, Penn State Cooperative Extension Service is producing a series of learn-at-home packets entitled, “Children In Your Care, In Your Home.” “The series will evolve from the business aspects of running a day care home to arranging your home for day care to planning activities for children in your care, in your home,” says Dr. James Van Horn, Penn State extension family sociologist and author of the senes. “Special topics include the need to have a business contract with parents, making your home safe for children, recordkeeping for tax deductions and emergency medical procedures, and many more,” he says. Each of the nine installments also discusses various organizations and support groups available to day care givers. The senes gives tips on running a business in your home so that you can continue to provide quality care without financial difficulties as well as some of the more serious aspects of child care such as how to tell if a child is being abused. The packets, which also give advice on how to feed children and how to keep them amused, are free and available through your county home economist. Call or write Michelle S. Rodgers, 1383 Arcadia Road, Room 1, Lancaster, PA 17601 (394-6851) to receive the free senes. Registration deadline is September 30,1984.
