UNIVERSITY PARK - Eight
Berks County 4-H’ers were
recently named winners in the 1984
4-H National Awards Program in
recognition of their outstanding
records in 4-H work.
Carroll L. Howes, associate 4-H
youth program director at the
Penn State University, said the 4-
H’ers were judged on the basis of
project worts, leadership ability,
and participation in county and
state activities.
The winners were picked from
among the more than 145,000 youth
who annually participate in the
extension service educational 4-H
program.
Deborah Price of Douglasville
was named state Public Speaking
Award winner. The daughter of
Jere and Patricia Price, she is a
freshman at the Penn State
University. She has been a 4-H club
member for 11 years.
A member of the Berks County 4-
H club, she served as president and
secretary. She also assisted with
club activities and events as a teen
leader. She was the National Dairy
Goat Scholarship winner in 1984.
Price has completed projects in
public speaking and leadership
and took part in the 4-H Fair and
Communications Night, and in the
Capital Days and Leadership
Congress.
James Heffner, Fleetwood, was
named state Personal Develop
ment Award winner. The son of
May and Wilson Heffner, he is a
short order cook at the Kountry
Kitchen Restaurant. He has been a
4-H member for nine years.
A member of the Berks County 4-
H club, he served as president and
vice president. He also assisted
with dub activates and events as a
teen leader.
Heffner has completed projects
in beef breeding and marketing
and participated in livestock and
dairy judging. He also took part in
the Leadership Congress and
Farm Show.
Patricia Dreisbach, of Ham
burg, was named state
Agricultural Careers Scholarship
nominee in the 1964 4-H National
Awards Program. The daughter*)!
Robert and Helene Dreisbach, she
is a freshman at the Virginia
Polutech Institute. She has been a
4-H member for 10 years.
A member of the Tilden Com
munity 4-H club, she served as
president and vice president. She
also assisted with club activities
UNIVERSITY PARK - Three
Lebanon county 4-H members
have been named state award
winners in the 1964 National
Awards Program.
Troy Funk and Natalie Wagner,
both of Lebanon, and Larissa
Smith, Myerstown, will attend
National 4-H Congress in Chicago
this November, where they will be
eligible for $l,OOO - $1,500
scholarships provided by cor
porate donors.

Dreisbach has completed
projects in public speaking and pet
care, and took part in the 4-H Fair,
dairy shows, Capital Days and
state judging contests.
Nanette Coryell of Womelsdorf
was named state Food and
Nutrition Award winner. The
daughter of Rodger and Nancy
Coryell, she is a freshman at Penn
State University. She has been a 4-
H member for eight years.
A member of the Rehrersburg
Adventurers 4-H club, she served
as vice president and secretary.
She also assisted with club ac
tivities and events as a teen leader.
Coryell has completed projects
in food science and photography
Three Lebanon 4
Youth Program Director at The
Pennsylvania State University
announced the award selection.
Judging was on the basis of project
work, leadership ability, and
participation in county and state
activities, be said.
Troy Funk was a winner in
Health. He is planning a career in
respiratory therapy, a decision he
made in 4-H. In 4-H, he is most
active in health education and
photography.

Jamie Batz, Richland, was
named state Food Preservation
Award winner. The daughter of
James and Barbara Batz, she is a
sophomore at the University of
Delaware. She has been a 4-H’er
for 11 years.
A member of the Rehrersburg
Adventurers club, she served as
president and vice president. She
also assisted with club activities
and events as a teen leader.
Batz has completed projects in
clothing and drying foods. She
participated in the 4-H Fair, the
Regional Fashion Revue, Capital
Days and Leadership Congress.
Kenianne Rarick, Reading, was
named state Beef Award winner.

As a teen leader, he planned club
and county activities including 4-H
Camp, Teen Council, and the Fair.
He also attended Regional Night,
State Days, Fashion Revue, and
Leadership Congress.
Troy is the son of Judith and
Richard Funk, Bunker Hill. He is a
1964 graduate of Northern Lebanon
High School.

Award. Larissa, -a junior at Elco
High School, has been a member of

The daughter of Kenneth and
Roseanne Rarick, she is a senior at
the Fleetwood Area High School.
She has been a 4-H member for
nine years.
A member of the Berks County 4-

Rarick has completed projects in
marketing and beef breeding, and
has participated in the 4-H Fair,
livestock judging, Capital Days
and Achievement Days.

Rebman, she is a freshman at the
Indiana University of Pa. She has
been a 4-H’er for 11 years.

the Myerstown 4-H Raiders for
eight years. She was president,
