Representatives of agricultural producers and the Maryland Department of Agriculture are combining their efforts to launch the “Favor the Maryland Flavor” promotional campaign in con junction with the 1984 State Fair at Timonium, Aug. 25 to Sept. 3. Maryland Department of Agriculture Marketing staff members have worked with artist, Doug Sidney, to design the “Favor the Maryland Flavor” logo which will be used on Maryland food products and in promotional ac tivities. The agricultural showcase at the State fair will feature the new promotional theme. The sale of Maryland produced foods will be offered by the Maryland Pork Producers, Turkey Growers and the Maryland Roadside Market Association. Featured will be sausage sand wiches, pork barbeque, homemade fruit pies, com on the cob, ice cold melons and smoked and roast turkey sandwiches. Within the showcase will be a promotion booth manned by representatives of Maryland’s farming community. A different product will be featured daily with demonstrations, working exhibits, and the distribution of recipes and samples of prepared foods. Organizations involved in this effort include the American Mushroom Institute, Maryland Milk Producers, Delmarva Poultry Industry, Maryland Soybean Board, Delmarva Rabbit Growers, Maryland Poik Producers, Maryland Sheep breeders Association, Maryland State Beekeepers, Maryland Egg Council and Maryland Fruitgrowers. Assisting with the promotion efforts are representatives of the rural youth organizations of 4-H Clubs and the Future Farmers of America. Four-H Club representatives will assist marketing efforts in the showcase while FFA representatives work with promotional projects throughout the fairgrounds. Visitors to the booth will have an opportunity to talk with agricultural queens and several costumed characters representing the agricultural industry. Secretary of Agriculture, Wayne A. Cawley, Jr., is looking forward to this new promotional effort at the State Fair and will visit the booth on Agriculture Day, August 28.
