FLEMINGTON, N.J. - For the
second time, Backacres Joyous
Dixie stole the show and was
judged the outstanding Holsteion
cow at the Central Jersey Holstein
Show on Friday, Aug. 10, at
Flemington Fairgrounds. Judge
Donald .Hostetter, Parkesburg,
awarded her the Grand Champion
Female rosette after winning the
Aged Cow Class.
She did the same last year!
Dixie is owned by Lucinda Teets
Pill. Her dad, Bill Teets, Lebanon,
bred the cow, a daughter of
Llenroc Joyous Matt. Judge
Hostetter remarked on her size,
balance, style, and correctness of
leg, strength of udder, in placing
her at the head of the Aged Cow
Class. “It was an impressive class
of Holsteins,” he said.
There were 90 head in this year’s
show. Dixie did her share in
helping Bill Teets amass enough
points to be named Premier
Breeder. Penn-Breeze Farm,
Charles Rogers and Family,
Ringoes, was honored as Premier
Exhibitor.
Blue ribbons were well
distnbuted during the day-long
event. Nine exhibitors shared the
blue’s in eleven heifer and cow
classes. Windy Crest Holsteins,
Howard Sutton & Son, Califon, took
3 blues in heifer and cow classes,
and 2 in group classes. He had the
Jr. Champion Female, Windy
Crest Buttercup, a daughter of
Wileeda Citation R, and she had
been Ist Sr. Heifer Calf.
Reserve Champion Female was
P-De-B charming Charlene, owned
by Peter Deßlock, Johnstown,
N.Y. and shown by Jim Powers of
Hunterdon Hills Holsteins.

Backacres cow repeats
Charlene is in residence at HHH,
and since her owner is a CJ
Holstein Assn, member, she is
eligible to show in the area show. A
daughter of Straight Pine
Elevation Pete, she was Ist in a
strong 3-year-old class.
In the Jr. Division of the show,
Penn-Breeze Oriel Persua Sandy,
owned and shown by Sandy
Rogers, was Grand Champion.
Reserve in the Jr. Division was
Riveaire Persuader Lorie, owned
by 4-H’er Wayne Sutton, North
Branch. Both champions were
sired by Plushanski Persuader.
Jr. Champion in the Jr. Division
was Penn-Breeze Oriel Threat
Windy, again owned by Sandy
Rogers.
In fitting and showmanship
competition, Judge Melody
Heaton, Hopewell, awarded the
many prizes, including:

The top youth award, a
registered Holstein calf donated by
Jim & Art Sutton, went to Janet
Rogers. Second place in overall
youth, a showbox, went to Susan
Kuehn.
Special recognition was made of
the many contributions made by
Margin Stout, Sr., retired Holstein
breeder and the Holstein’s
Association’s first president. The
show was dedicated to Mr. Stout.
An interesting story of His in
volvement in breeding and
promoting Holsteins appeared in
the show book.

Three Bridges, and John Repair,
