Last but not least, you’ll find petite Samantha trying her best to keep up with the overwhelming pace of the rest. Heather poses with a pen of her York and Duroc breeding hogs being exhibited at the Butler Farm Show. The eyes of this little girl sparkle with the anticipation of someday being the one in the spotlight of honors. Dad and mom were also 4-H’ers in their childhood. Lloyd carried dairy, sheep and farm crops while Marlene took cooking, sewing, flowers and entomology. Still in volved with 4-H functions at local and county levels they are leaders of the Connoquenessing 4-H Club. Lloyd was an active FFA’er in his time, too. Carrying 11 projects, he was a gold medal winner at state level two years on farm account books in 1966-67. Upon graduation he served in the Peace Corps for 2 years in Malaysia, teaching tractor maintenance and planting corn. During one month some 1500 acres of com were hand planted with very little use of equipment. Returning to the home farm, his major role in the operation is in charge of the crops. Besides the acreage at home, they rent an additional 150 acres to secure enough feed for the livestock. Twenty sows of Duroc breeding yield a 200 pigs a year for finishing. Quite proud of his own Duroc boar named “Super Wow” raised to be the service sire of his hog operation has added to his ac complishments.
