family, owner of Vel-Rus Farm,
Cochranton.
In addition to these awards,
special presentations were made
during the highly competitive
show. The Wesley Baxter Rotating
Memorial Trophy for Best Udder
was presented to Bob Freyermuth,
Meadville.
Also, the Ed Karpa Memorial
Rotating Trophy for First Place
Junior Calf presented by by Kirk
Hillegass, went to Leroy Plance,
Wellsboro. Ray Anthony was the
recipient of the Ronald Mitcheltree
Memorial Rotating Trophy for
Aged Cow. Shirley Mitcheltree
made the presentation.
This year’s show got underway
Thursday night with a buffet for
the local breeders and show
exhibitors. Approximately 175
attended the dinner catered by the
Springhouse, owned by Pa.
Holstein Association president
Sam Minor and his wife, Bev.
Chairing this year’s show
committee was Lee Hamilton. Also
coordinating show efforts were
Jim McMurray, Washington
County Holstein Club president;
Doug Hershey, Pa. Holstein
Association; and local club
members who donated time,
money and trophies to the show.

Uatrv II set for Sept. Ifv in Scranton
HARRISBURG Runners from
throughout the Commonwealth
and the Mid-Atlantic region will
vie for top honors and the op
portunity to win a weekend trip to
New York City in the Dairy Dash
11, to be held Sunday, Sept. 16 in
Scranton, according to state
Agriculture Secretary Penrose
Hallowell.
Sponsored by the Pennsylvania
Department of Agriculture and the
American Dairy Association, the
10 kilometer highly competitive
race gets underway at 11 a.m. and
winds its way through the streets
of Scranton and the hilly coun
tryside of picturesque
Lackawanna County.
The race starts and finishes at
Courthouse Square in Scranton. It
offers contestants 12 tropies, 24
ribbons and 36 baskets of dairy
products to top finishers in five
male and female categories.
Trophies are awarded to all first
place winners, male and female in.
each age division. Second and third
place finishers will receive rib
bons. The top three finishers in
each division will also receive a

registration fee for runners
desiring a specially designed t
