AlB—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, August 11,1984 WASHINGTON, D.C. - The national dairy promotion board, meeting in Chicago, 111., July 19, approved a $50.6 million contract for an advertising program to increase consumption of milk and dairy products. Ivan K. Stridden, lola, Kan., chairman of the board, said the contract is with the Dairy Promotion Federation Association, which will purchase television and print advertising from September 1984 through April 1985. The 36-member board of dairy producers instructed its staff to negotiate the contract with the federation and specified a number of technical provisions. The con tract was approved after reducing the original proposal of $84.4 Swartz gets Chester Ext. post WEST CHESTER - David L. Swartz has been appointed assistant agricultural agent for Chester County, effective July 1. Swartz’ new job responsibilities include organizing educational programs for commercial dairy producers, assisting in the development of local agricultural and community leadership and supervising county 4-H dairy programs. A 1982 graduate of Penn State, Swartz has a bachelor of science degree in dairy production and agricultural education. He was formerly employed as a herd manager at J.B. Brymesser and Sons, a 225-cow dairy farm near Boiling Springs. In college he was a member of the Dairy Science Club, Collegiate Future Farmers of America, Alpha Tau Alpha honorary fraternity, and the Intervarsity Christian Fellowship. Dairy Promotion Board approves $5O million generic advertising program million by 40 percent, Strickler said. The proposal was approved unanimously by the board members voting. Six members abstained from voting to avoid an appearance of conflict of interest. The program is expected to spend about $l7 million on fluid milk promotion, $7 million on butter and $3 million advertising the calcium benefits derived from dairy products. Strieker said the board also approved a resolution adopting guidelines to clarify policy regarding appearances of conflict of interest. Dairy board directors who are directors or employees of other promotional programs will abstain from deliberations and voting on matters involving those organizations. David L. Swartz He was bom and raised on a small farm in Cumberland County and now resides in East Fallowfield Township, Chester County. The board also created a new committee on nutrition research and education.
