INDIANA Elizabeth Ann
Mowry was crowned 1984 Indiana
County Dairy Princess at Sprowls
Hall on the Indiana University of
Pennsylvania Campus in Indiana
on July 7.1961 Dairy Princess Lori
Kirkland presented Elizabeth with
her crown and a bouquet of red
roses. Elizabeth was also named
Miss Congeniality.
First runner-up was Beth Nesbit,
daughter of Jerry and Karen
Nesbit, Marchand. Lori also
presented Beth her banner and
bouquet of pink carnations.
Elizabeth is the 17-year-old
daughter of Clarence and Grace
Mowry Jr. of R 1 Smicksburg.
Elizabeth will be a senior at
Dayton and Lenape Vo-Tech in
Ford City. Elizabeth’s activities
include the school chorus, chess
club, Vica (Vocational Industrial
Clubs of America), and the
Mahoning Grange 1732.
Elizabeth’s family milks a herd of
Holsteins.
Beth is a 20-year-old sophomore
attending the Indiana University of
Pennsylvania majoring in
rehabilitation. Beth’s activities
include being a staff correspondent
for Lancaster Farming, a former
4-H member of the Northern In
diana County 4-H Dairy Club and
an active member of the Marchand
United Methodist Church. Beth
owns 30 head of Registered

The evening began with each of
the five contestants presenting a
two-minute skit they had prepared
to promote milk. Elizabeth ex
plained to the audience, dressed as
a cow, the importance of milk and
its by-products from the cow’s
point of view.
1981 Dairy Princess Lori
Kirkland gave her farewell speech
and thanked her family and the
dairy promotion committee for
their support during her reign. A
presentation from each of the
dairy princesses who have served
the county since it began the dairy
princess program was a highlight
of the evenings entertainment. A
slide presentation, narrated by
Carol Schurman, county extension
agent, of past dairy princess
pagents also accompanied the
introduction of the past princesses.
Musical entertainment for the
evening was provided by Kenneth
Black. Following the pagent a
reception was held for those in
attendance.
During Elizabeth’s reign, she
will travel throughout the county
promoting milk and dairy
products.
In September she will travel to
Harrisburg to compete for the
Pennsylvania Dairy Princess
