    Garrett County, Md., sponsors annual Holstein show

McHENRY, Md. - The
seventeenth annual Garrett
County Holstein Field Day got
underway in McHenry, Md., July
9, with 33 exhibitors and 114
animals from Pennsylvania,
Maryland and West Virginia.
Judge John Morris, retired dairy
specialist from the University of
Maryland, evaluated and selected
the top Holsteins in a total of 34
classes. Morris selected as senior
champion and also as grand
champion Md Maple Manor Hope
Babe-Twin, a 7-year-old cow
owned by Edgar R. Yoder of
Grantsville, Md. Babe, sired by Md
Maple Manor Astro Reflector, also
took the “best udder” competition
later in the day.
Reserve champion of the show
was the senior reserve winner as

the show. William Brooke of
Brookedale Holstein was selected
Premier 4-H/FFA Exhibitor.
Dan Tice, one of the Maryland
Holstein Association State
Directors, said, “There are
several state show winners here
today, a lot of quality animals.”
Jim Simms, Garrett County
Extension Agent, summed up;
“It’s been a good show.”
