The setting at Shorty Mack’s on
Columbia Avenue in Lancaster
may be plain and simple, but the
IC e cream is just as good as that
served in fancier settings. Here a
visitor can enjoy a cone or a milk
shake made to order while wat
ching his favorite television show.
This shop offers a large variety
of flavors, including fudge ripple,
tangerine and apricot. However,
vanilla remains the favorite here,

says Phyllis Scheffman, who owns
the business with her husband
John.
Chocolate would come in second,
and “from then on it’s pretty
diversified,” she says. John is in
charge of the ice cream, making
about 500 to 600 gallons a week.
Phyllis’ duties include dipping ice
cream and preparing sandwiches
for customers out front.
For those who can’t get enough
of Shorty Mack’s ice cream in one
setting, they offer their homemade
product to go in quart, half-gallon
and gallon sizes.
GOOD’S DAIRY
Just off of Route 30 on the
Rohrerstown Exit, the weary
traveler can beat his driving
doldrums with a game of miniture
golf, take a stroll along a pasture
filled with mules and a llama or sit
down to a generous helping of
delicious Good’s Famous Ice
Cream.
Offering over 16 flavors of
homemade ice cream, including
liquor desserts and assorted
sherbets, Good’s Dairy likes to
treat its customers to an ice cream
festival. Whether with a small or
large appetite, the ice cream lover
can enjoy a single serving (which
resembles a double), or indulge in
an ice cream sundae delight - fresh
hot waffle sundaes.
For those with an exotic taste,
the Tropical Sundae njay be in
order. A favorite' among
customers, according to assistant
manager Jean Crawford, the
sundae features coconut pineapple
ice cream, pineapple topping and
crushed coconut.
In addition to ice cream, Good’s
features daily specials and family
style meals. Customers can order
a take out meal and sit on the
outside picnic tables, eat inside the
country-decorated restaurant and
even reserve the “loft” for a
banquet for 40 to 50 people.
KREIDER’S DAIRY AND
RESTAURANT
A friendly atmosphere and
friendly service all inside a family
styled restaurant is what awaits
those visiting Kreider’s Dairy and
Restaurant, south of Manheim on
Route 72. The attractive, homey
interior lends itself to a meal at
home and is a perfect setting for a
family outing.
But the restaurant, itself, is not
the only thing that draws
customers to Kreider’s, it’s also
the homemade ice cream.
Featuring the all-time favorites
vanilla, chocolate and strawberry
ice cream, Kreider’s also does well
with its peanut butter, butter
pecan, black raspberry and
coconut cream flavors, according
to employee Dave Keller.
Serving ice cream since 1981,
