Sheetz urges caution on HARRISBURG Rep. Terry Sheetz (R-Lancaster) has called on the state Agriculture Secretary to ensure conservative ad ministration of a bond issue program for Pennsylvania agriculture. The 99th District lawmaker told Agriculture Secretary Penrose Hallowed that the success of a $lO million loan program will depend “on your interpretation of the legislation and the latitude you allow in its implementation.” “I supported the legislation to implement the bond issue ap proved by voters in April,” Scheetz said. “But I have serious reser vations about the effect such a program could have on Penn sylvania agriculture if it’s not properly managed and carefully scrutinized.” If you use a computer In your farm operation Or are planning to purchase a computer In the future EASTERN COMPUTING FARMERS ASSOCIATION Helpershlo Pri vilei • Eastern Computing Farmer • Telephone Hot-Line * Access to Ag Software Library • InflepenOent consulting services • Ag computing conferences ana seminars ■ Discounts on computer supplies For a FREE issue of Eastern Computing Call Toll Free 1-800-225-5800 “There is evidence all around us of agricultural loans made by banks and government agencies that will end up doing farmers more harm than good. I’ve asked the Agriculture Secretary to en sure that the bond issue program aids, rather than hinders agricultural development.” In a letter to Sec. Hallowed, Scheetz noted that the agricultural community, given the chance to vote on the existence of the loan program, would probably reject the idea. “However, the legislature acted on the wid of ad the people in establishing the bond issue program,” concluded Scheetz. “We must see that the program results in a positive effect on Pennsylvania’s agriculture. By working together, the legislature, the Agriculture Secretary and Computers & Farming Then Join the and membership information monthly publication Farmer others in state government can see that it does.” Rep. Scheetz’s letter to Sec. Hadowed states: Honorable Penrose Hadowed Department of Agriculture 211 Agriculture Office Budding 2301 North Cameron Street Harrisburg, PA 17110 Dear Secretary HaUowell; On June 26,1984,1 voted in favor of Senate Bill 1438, legislation which will implement the $lO million agricultural aid portion of the bond issue approved by voters in April. I supported the bill, but I have some very serious concerns about the effect it could have on Pennsylvania agriculture. My initial impression is that if the program is not administered in a very conservative manner, it will help only a few and maintain agriculture in a position of weakness. wood & Cool stow** I Insorts Hearthstone SOAPSTONE STOVE M Gloss onclosuros 2533 Old Phila Pike Rt 340 I by Jt Smoketown PA ft Schaefer tr t f io-b was io-s m Appt — (717) 397-7539 Lancaster County's Authorized Hearthstone Dealer “Twist-Lock” cups: newest innovation from the new leader ...another reason SWISH saves you more labor, more birds, and more money The newest Jwist m cage watering makes cup cleaning and maintenance a real snap its SWISH s Twist-Lock cups for cage layers and brood-grow watering systems Saves labor. There is evidence everywhere today of agricultural loans made by banks and government agencies that should never have been made. Today, recipient farmers often find themselves in worse positions than they were before the loans were made.
