Slaughter Steers and Heifers
ranged upwards .50-1.00 this week
undet a generally broad demand,
particularly for Choice Steers 1100
lbs. and up and Choice Heifers 975
lbs. and up. Lighter weight and/or
“short fed” kinds continued to
experience a narrowed and
cautious demand, but these shared
in at least a portion of the week’s
advance. Trading at midweek
slowed somewhat; but light
receipts and depleted packer in
ventories kept the market from
deteriorating. Cows 1.00 higher.
Bulls steady.
Estimated 5 day receipts 10,800;
actuals last week 5,514 and last
year 12,040. Steers comprised 46
pet. of the week’s receipts; Heifers
42 pet.; Cows 8 pet.; Feeders 3 pet.
