New safety trip option has been announced by Howard
Rotavator for its Paraplow.
Paraplow adds safety trip
MUSCODA, Wise. When the
Howard Paraplow was launched in
mid-1983, it featured shear bolt
protection for its soil-loosening
“legs.” Now the manufacturer,
Howard Rotavator Company of
Muscoda, Wise., has announced a
new safety trip option for
Paraplow customers.
“The new safety trip greatly
expands Paraplow territory and
applications,” says Brian In
verarity, Product Manager,
“allowing it to be used in a wider
variety of soils and more difficult
conditions.”
The Paraplow is a unique tillage
tool used by both conservation-till
and no-till farmers to loosen the
soil underground while leaving the
surface undisturbed. Its legs slice
into the ground at a 45-degree
angle and fracture soil by lifting it
from beneath. As the soil flows
over each leg, compaction is
broken uniformly to the full 14”
working depth, vertical pores are
restored to facilitate water
movement, and residues are kept
on the surface to control erosion.
Two Paraplow Series are of
fered: the fully mounted 1100 with
3 or 4 legs (60” and 80” wide) and
the semi-mounted 1800 with 5 or 6
legs (100” and 120” wide). A choice

Programs are scheduled to begin
at 9:15 a.m. and end at 2:30 p.m.

climb off the tractor to change a
shear bolt.”
The new trip is a spring-loaded,
toggle type which lets the leg pivot
backward to an above-ground
position when an obstacle is en
countered. All the operator has to
do then is hydraulically raise the
PARAPLOW. The weight of the leg
and the spring action
automatically return the leg to its
working position. The
PARAPLOW is then lowered back
into the ground and operations can
continue.
The trip is available as an option
to the standard shear bolt on new
models, or as a conversion kit for
models already in the field with
shear bolts. The new assembly
adds about 60 lbs. to each leg. Both
“trash” and “pasture” legs can be
trip-protected.

MF debuts 3 forage harvesters
DES MOINES, la. - Massey-
Ferguson introduces three new
forage harvesters that make
forage cutting quick and efficient.
They are the MF 680, MF 684 and
the MF 688 pull-type forage har
vesters.
All three forage harvesters can
be equipped with row crop, pickup
or direct cut headers in a variety of
widths to match available tractor
horsepower and individual farm
management programs.
The MF 680 operates at 540 RPM
and is designed for use with
tractors with 60 to 115 PTO hor
sepower. The MF 684 is operated at
1000 RPM for use with tractors in
the 60 to 175 PTO horsepower
range. The MF 688 also operates at
1000 RPM and is designed for 90 to
250 PTO horsepower tractors.
Cutting Knives
Eight ‘C’-shaped cutter-head
knives provide uniform cutting and
increase crop flow-through from
the cutting cylinder to the blower,
reducing horsepower
requirements. The knives
aggressively move the forage
material back into the blower and
minimize bunching problems.
The 55-degree knife angle on
each model provides steeper
cutting angle for more scissor-like
cutting efficiency. Large openings
between the knives increase crop
flow into the cutter head.
The helical knives, with two
cutting edges, are reversible for
longer life. A full-width electric
knife sharpener is standard on the
MF 684 and MF 688 and optional on
the MF 680.

breaking ceremonies took place
recently in Fleur de Lait Foods,
Ltd. in New Holland for a 15,000
square foot refrigerated
warehouse as part of an expansion
program of the company’s present
facilities.
According to President Clifford
Marquart, “the new facility is part
of a significant plan of growth for
the company and represents a
continuing commitment to Lan
caster County with its abundant
supply of quality milk.”
Formerly Zausner Foods, Fleur

A large 36-inch diameter blower
fan maximizes air flow for
minimal plugging risk. For easy

An overrunning clutch protects
the tractor’s driveline. All three
