Ida Risser
As predicted, my strawberries
and sugar peas kept me too busy.
When I planted them, I didn’t know
my me helper would take a sumer
job in Ohio.
For the past two weeks, I’ve
picked an average of 30 quart a day
or 360 quart so far. Ami, I’m not
nearly finished as I leave my peas
stand to bloom a second time.
These are the ones that I will
freeze since the first crop gets sold.
Now that is a job in itself - phoning
customers and setting up times
and days when it suits them to use
the berries and peas.
During this period, I become a
short-order cook. I put three nice

This advice must have impressed
me as I’ve stuck to it all these

There are certain foods that
seem to go together. When I have
chicken and mashed potatoes, I
think that I should cook peas with
it. Or when I make baked beans
and hot dogs, I feel red beets are a
nice complement. During this busy
season, I did take time to make

younger at home, we always had

father claimed it was his favorite
dish.
