N.J. dairy contest slated NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. - The State FFA Dairy Judging Contest will be held in conjunction with the State 4-H Dairy Judging Contest on Tuesday, July 10. The contest is open to all FFA members currently enrolled in vocational agriculture. The contest day will begin at 8:45 a.m. at the farm of Tom Smith in Allentown, N.J. Students will judge Brown Swiss and Guernseys at the Smith farm and proceed to the New Jersey Psychiatric Institute in Skillman to judge Jersey cattle and on to the Piskorowski farm in Lawrenceville to judge Holstein cattle. Students will judge the cattle on their general apearance, dairy character, body capacity and mammary system. The students will place each class of four animals and give several sets of oral reasons on their placmgs. The top placing FFA team in New Jersey will proceed to the National Dairy Judging Contest in Kansas City, Mo. in November. FFA judging contests allow students to use information learned in the vocational agriculture classroom in com petitive situations where they can excel and be recognized for their efforts.
