B24—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, June 23,1984 BIGLERVILLE - A staee decorated with man-sized cartons of milk, cottage cheese and other dairy products was the setting for the Adams County Dairy Princess Contest last Saturday where a 17- year-old high school senior was crowned the new princess. Carol Clowney, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. TTiomas Clowney of Gettysburg, was named the 1984 Dairy Princess and received her crown and banner from 1983 Dairy Princess Faye Messinger. The alternate dairy princess title went to 17-year-old Carol Hobaugh, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Reever of East Berlin. Miss Clowney, who attends Gettysburg Senior High School, plans to pursue a career in dairy management upon graduation. She said she is considering becoming a third partner in her family’s dairy operation. Her farm respon sibilities include milking and calf care. In addition to her farm chores, Miss Clowney finds time for ac tivities such as the Barlow-Mt. Joy Community Club, the Adams County 4-H Dairy Calf Club and the 4-H Senate. Miss Hobaugh, who attends Sprint Grove Senior High School, currently works at a neighbor’s farm where she is in charge of the dairy cattle. A 10-year 4-H member and a four-year Dairy Calf Club member, Miss Hobaugh is plan ning a career working with dairy cattle. Also competing for the title were Cindy Hilbert, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Hilbert of Lit tlestown, and Polly Mehring, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Mehring Jr. of Gettysburg. For the pageant, each contestant was interviewed by a panel of three judges, presented a 30- second radio spot, answered an impromtu question and were in terviewed on stage by master of ceremomes Doug Hershberger, a former State FFA President, of Quarryville. PA 17602 PH (717)687-0772 Adams County names Carol Clown Judges for the pageant held at Biglerville High School were Mrs. Linda Ermg, Shippensburg, a former dairy princess and currently a customer service representative for Commonwealth National Bank of Shippensburg; Ms. Laura England, Lancaster, 1979 Blair County Dairy Princess and currently associate editor of Lancaster Farming; and Lester Martin, Chambersburg, a dairy farmer who is president of the Cumberland Valley Jersey Breeders Association. The new dairy princess will attend farm and nonfarm meetings, participate in mall promotions, present programs for elementary students, write newspaper articles among other responsibilities to promote milk in Adams County for the upcoming year. Northampton and Lehigh Counties crown dairy princess EASTON Michele Fulmer, the 17-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs, Berton Fulmer, was recently crowned 1984 Northampton-Lehigh County dairy princess during a ceremony at Williams Restaurant in Easton. Janet Poliskiewicz, the 17-year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Philip Poliskiewicz, is the new alternate dairy princess. Michele is a junior at Pen Argyul High School where she is active on the Prom Committee, yearbook staff, chorus and powderpuff football. She is a member of the 4- H Dairy Club, the 4-H Advisory Board and the Blue Valley Garden Club.
