C2--Unc««tf Farming, Saturday, June 9,1984 Potato pest handbook cited UNIVERSITY PARK - Diseases, insects, and weeds af fecting potatoes are identified in a handbook published by the College of Agriculture at The Penn sylvania State University. The handbook is designed for use throughout the Northeastern states, according to Richard H. Cole, Extension Specialist in Potato Management at The Pennsylvania State University. Berwick vegetable co-op to meet BERWICK Three decades of progress will be marked at the annual dinner-meeting of Berwick Vegetable Cooperative scheduled for Saturday evening, June 16, at Maria Assunta Hall, Monroe Street, Berwick. Registration for members and area from leaders will begin at 6 p.m., with a home-style dinner served an hour later. Pete Wambach who is known state-wide as “The Voice of Pennsylvania” will be the guest speaker. Wambach’s speech will be entitled “It’s a Beautiful Day in Pennsylvania.” He has been a broadcaster for 49 years. As a lecturer, he represents the Penn sylvania Rural Electric Cooperatives, and is the Central Pennsylvania Savings Association’s Community Relations representative. As a journalist he is associated with the Harrisburg-Patriot-News and Pennsylvania Magazine. He has been a candidate for the U.S. Congress and for Lieutenant Governor of Pennsylvania. He has attended 15 national conventions of the political parties, and for the fifth time to the national con vention. And he was a member of the Platform Committee twice. He has been a member of the Democratic State Committee and its Executive Committee for the past twenty years, fighting specifically for the political rights of rural Pennsylvanians. In government, Wambach has been press aide to Governor George M. Leader and a press secretary to Governor David Lawrence. He was Administrative Assistant to Lt. Governor John Davis. He served as Public Relations Director of the Depart ment of Justice and the Bureau of Travel Development and has been a Special Assistant to the Director of the Penna. Lottery. During the past 15 years, Wambach has been heard daily on more than 80 radio stations in the Commonwealth, in his series, “This is Pennsylvania”. Founded to provide a produce marketing service and farm supply purchasing service to vegetable and potato growers of several counties surrounding Berwick, the cooperative has grown tremendously.
