By the time that you read this
article, I expect that I’ll be up to
my ears in strawberries and sugar
peas. In fact, I’ve planted so many
strawberries that I don’t see how
I’ll get them all picked by myself.
Usually, one day is spent picking
berries and the next one picking
peas. This year with all of the
children gone I’ll simply have to do
the best that I can by myself.
Speaking of all of our six
children now living away from
home, I might mention that we’ve
finally hired a herdsman. He is a
graduate of Delaware Valley
College and we are expecting great
things of him. We plan to add to our
herd and increase our production
in order to cover the cost of an
employee. One of our sons also
graduated in dairy husbandry
from the same college but has gone
into a different line of work.
However, he does return to the

on finances which are his
speciality.
My husband is now of retirement
age and would like to slow down a
bit. He wants to be able to go
fishing occasionally and maybe
even visit a child or two who are
now scattered from Maine to
Washington. He has done all of the
milking for over 35 years and
surely deserves some time off now
and then.
At present, his leisure time is
spent planning trips to likely
fishing spots in nearby places. He
and I both enjoy the sport but have
a lot to learn. When I held an office
job for eight years, I’d often fish in
our meadow in the evenings. It was
relaxing and when I caught two big
suckers at the same time, it was
also exciting.
We shall see how everything
turns out for us this summer.
