Five contestants to compete for Lebanon dairy princess
ANNVILLE In celebration of
June Dairy Month the Lebanon
County Milk Promotion Committee
is sponsoring the 13th Annual
Lebanon Co. Dairy Princess
Contest. This year’s contest will be
held June 16 at 7:30 p.m. in the
Annville Elementary School. Five
contestants will be participating.
The contestants, all residents of
Lebanon County, are Diane Gish,
Ellen Hanson, Heather Hernley,
Ann Lansberry, and Heidi Peiffer.
To be eligible to run, the girls must
be the daughter of a dairy farmer,
dairy farm manager of herdsman,
or own at least one dairy animal
herself.
Diane Gish, 17, is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. J. Edgar Gish, Jr.,
1910 Water St., Lebanon. She is a
1984 graduate of Cedar Crest High
School, where she was active in the
Pep Club, Medical Careers Club
and YEA. Diane also is a member

Ellen Hanson

Church and participates in the quiz
team, youth group and is a nursery
attendant. Diane plans on at
tending Pinebrook Junior College
to major in business management.
Her parents own a herd of 45
Holstein cows.
Ellen Hanson, 17, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. J. Ivan Hanson, R 2,
Palmyra, served as the Alternate
Lebanon Co. Dairy Princess
during this past year. She is a
recent graduate of Palmyra High
School and also attended the
Lebanon County Vo-Tech School.
Ellen is a member of the NoSoAnn
4-h Dairy Club, the Lebanon
County 4-H Livestock Club and the
Vo-Tech FFA Chapter. She serves
as president of the South Mountain
4-H Club. Ellen also is active in the
youth group of the Palmyra
Church of the Brethren. Possible
future plans include attending
it.

dairy herd management. The
Hanson’s have a herd of 25 Holstein
and Jersey cows on their farm.
Heather Hernley, 18, is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Delmas
Hernley, R 2, Lebanon. She is a 1984
graduate of Northern Lebanon
High School and plans to attend
Delaware Valley College to study
dairy husbandry. While in high
school, Heather was a member of
the band, and FFA Chapter where
she held the office of secretary and
vice president. She also was
elected Lebanon County FFA
reporter during her senior year.
Heather also holds membership in
the Fredericksburg Community 4-
H Club, the Norlebco 4-H Dairy
Club, and the St. John’s Lutheran
Church in Fredericksburg where
she participates in the choir and
youth group. She was honored as
the Pennsylvania outstanding

Ayrshire Girl and placed second in
the national contest. The Hernley’s
milk a herd of 30 Holstein and
Ayrshire cows.
Ann Lansberry, 16, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Donald Lansberry,
430 N. Mine Rd., Lebanon, has
completed her junior year at Cedar
Crest High School. Her school
activities include the German
Club, Astronomy Club and Ex
plorers. Ann was also vice
president of the Cedar Crest FFA
Chapter, and has been elected as
reporter for this coming year. In
the county FFA organization, Ann
served as secretary during her
junior year. Additional activities
include membership in the 4-H
Equestrian Horse Club, and St.
Andrew’s Presbyterian Church.
Ann owns 2 Holstein dairy cattle
and is employed on the dairy farm
of James Berry.
Heidi Peiffer, 18, is the daughter
