production at 43.4 million pounds
was down one percent, and lowfat
cottage cheese production at 19.6
million pounds was down four
percent from the previous year.
Production of cheese, excluding
cottage cheese, totaled 147.5
million pounds in 1963, up 16
percent from the previous year.
Mozzarella production at 45.4
million pounds was up 21 percent
from 1982 while production of other
types of Italian cheeses at 28.8
million pounds was up 13 percent.
Swiss cheese production in 1983
was 6.7 million pounds, up 20
percent from the previous year.
Production of dry and condensed
milk during 1983 and the changes
from 1982 were; unsweetened
condensed whole milk - 38.8
million pounds, down 19 percent;
unsweetened condensed skim milk
- 34.4 million pounds, down 20
percent; and nonfat dry milk for
human food - 62.2 million pounds,
up 12 percent.
During 1983 a total of 4.32 billion
pounds of whole milk (equivalent)
was used in manufactured dairy
products in Pennsylvania with 36
percent used for the production o'
butter and 27 percent from frozei
products.
