Mystery tippers begin invasion of the staters restaurants
BY LAURA ENGLAND
STATE COLLEGE Waitresses
and waiters of Pennsylvania
beware. Civilians disguised as
“mystery tippers” will be invading
the state’s restaurants during June
Dairy Month in search of one of
nature’s most nearly perfect foods
-milk.
Caution is advised as the “tip
pers” will be armed with $lO bills.
But never fear, all you as a
waitress or waiter needs to do is
offer that person milk with his or
her meal, and he or she will leave
your restaurant with a ready
smile. And you, just for suggesting
milk with a meal, will be $lO
richer.
The “Mystery Tipper” program,
sponsored by the Pa. Holstein
Association in cooperation with the
Pa. Restaurant Association and
the Pa. Department of
Agriculture, got underway
yesterday with the state
proclamation of June Dairy
Month. Throughout the month,
mystery tippers representing
agribusinesses and dairy groups
will visit area restaurants

According to Doug Hershey, the
Holstein Association’s director of
membership services, $4,800 has
been pledged to the program by
agribusinesses, dairy groups and
individuals. Time is still available,
Hershey said, for others to contact
the Association and make their
pledges to the mystery tipper
program.
To participate in the program,
an agribusiness, dairy group or
individual pledges a certain
amount of money in tips,
preferrably in $lO increments. ITiis
group or individual is then
responsible for designating a
mystery tipper and providing the
$lO tip to the waitress or waiter. No
pledge money should be sent to the
Holstein Association, Hershey
stressed; however, the Association
should be contacted concerning the
amount of the pledge.
While dining out, the mystery
tipper is equipped with a $lO bill
which will be given to a waitress or
waiter who asks, in some form,
