The team took first place in horticulture judging and second in both technical knowledge and plant identification to finish runner-up to Kirkwood Community College, loKra. Individually, Ploss took third high individual honors, Velzy fourth, Johnson fifth, and Pr zybycien 10th. Velzy and Ploss are seniors in the landscape development curriculum, while Przybycien is a freshman in floriculture production and Johnson a freshman in floriculture merchandising. Alfred also entered three other teams in the national contests. In soils judging, Alfred placed fifth with a team of Steve Spalla of Albion, Jim Van Buskirk of Caneadea, Daniel Klein of North Bellmore Rhoda Knowlton of Coudersport, Pa. Knowlton led Alfred with an 11th overall finish, while Klein was 12th for coach John Brown’s team. In livestock judging, Alfred finished 10th.
