Today's family
(Continued from Page B 14)
families with a picture of peace
and harmony that did not exist,”
Kain says. “There is no traditional
‘ideal’ family that existed in
American history.”
Families today must face new
and complex moral issues, largely
due to technology, advances in
medicine, and better nutrition.
These advances have reduced
significantly the mortality rate
and extended life expectancies. As
a result, today’s families can’t
simply be compared with those of
yesterday.
“A wide range of changes that
involve families have been oc
curring. To address problems
facing families today, we must
take into account the complex
relationships between the many
factors that affect changing
families in our changing world,”
Kain concludes.
