Tioga County plans daily festival
MANSFIELD The second
annual Dairy Day festival will be
held June 2 in Mansfield, Pa. The
Tioga County Dairy Promotion
Committee has planned a full day
of events, starting with the 10K
Dairy Dash at 9 a.m. at the
Mansfield High School.
The theme for this year’s event
is “ ’B4 Dairy Olympics.” A parade
will organize at the Mansfield
Elementary School at 10:00 a.m.
with judging of the floats. The
parade will begin at 11:00 a.m. and
proceed from the elementary
school on Route 15 uptown to Route
6 and back to the Mansfield High
School returning to Smythe Park
for the afternoon’s events.
Following the parade, events
will be held at Smythe Park in
cluding a chicken barbeque by the
Mansfield Lions Club, food booths,
displays, and a petting zoo by the
Junior Holstein Club under the
direction of Harold and Leona
Robson. The petting zoo will have
calves, lambs, rabbits, ducks,
pigs, and much more.

County 4-H Youth exchange
program. A day’s services of
prominent Tioga County citizens
will be auctioned off to do your
work on a mutuaUy-agreeable
date.
A milking contest will again be
featured giving local radio
celebrities, the dairy princess
contestants, and the public an
opportunity to demonstrate their
hand-milking abilities.
Following the milking contest
Dairy Olympic Games will begin.
Chairman Pat Baker has planned a
tw6-man wheelbarrow race and a
calf bucket relay race for a four
man team. There will also be an
ice-cream eating contest with
divisions for 6-9 year olds, 10-12
year olds, 13-16 year olds, and 17
and over. Each contestant will be
given a double-dip ice cream cone
and the first ones done are the
winners.

A barbed-wire splicing contest will
be held for men and women. Here
contestants will splice barbed wire
together and winners will be
judged on speed and wire tension.
Highlighting the day’s events
will be the 1984 Tioga County Dairy
Princess Pagaent to be held at the
Mansfield High School at 8 p.m.
During the day the contestants will
participate in the parade and
milking contest. Then they will
meet the judges and have their
interviews. A pagaent dinner will
be held at Marks Brothers
Restaurant for the contestants,
parents, judges and committee.
The pagaent will include
selections by the Mansfield Men’s
Chorus, contestant interviews and
skits on milk promotion and
conclude with Amy Welch, our 1983
Dairy Princess crowning the
newly-selected Dairy Princess,

Princess Contest are Deanna Egli
from R 1 Roaring Branch is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray 0.
Egli, Jr. She is a jilnior at Canton
Area High School, where she is a
varsity cheerleader, a member of
the Warrior marching band,
concert band, AFS, YEA, and also
an active FFA member. Her
family operates a dairy farm with
about 50 Holsteins. Deanna plans
to attend St. Joseph’s School of
Nursing.
Brenda Robson, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Harold Robson, Jr. of R 2
Mansfield is a junior at Mansfield
Jr-Sr. High School. Brends is
active in 4-H, FFA, Key Club,
Mansfield High School track team,
and Pa. Junior Holstein Club
where she is an executive member

with 50 Holsteins. Brenda owns 15

Sherri Webster of R 1 Osceola is
the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
James Webster. Sherri is a student
at Elkland High School where she
is a member of the tennis team,
year book staff, & varsity club. She
is also a member of the Junior
Guernsey Club and president of the
Mountaineer 4-H Club. The
Webster family has a dairy herd of
holsteins while Sherri owns four
Guernseys of her own. Sherri
would like to further her schooling
in the field of cosmetology.
