Devon Horse Show
continues
throughout week
DEVON World Champion
horses, elegant boutiques,
delicious food, midway rides for
young and old and games of chance
and skill are some of the
ingredients that have made the
Devon Horse Show and Country
Fair the largest and most suc
cessful outdoor show in the
country.
Special attractions at the 88th
Annual Devon extravanganza,
which continues through next
Saturday, include a featured
Wednesday evening presentation
of the world-famous Marine Corps
Battle Color Ceremony and a
performance tomorrow evening by
the Valley Forge Military
Academy Mounted Drill Team,
accompanied by the Academy
Marching Band and the Anthony
Wayne Legion Guard.
Crowds of enthusiastic Devon
fans will again be savoring the
lemon-sticks, funnel cake and
Devon fudge as they lean over the
railing of the Dixon Oval to get a
better look at the champions of the
many breeds exhibited at Devon.
The Country Fair, which benefits
the Bryn Mawr Hospital, has
donated nearly $5 million to the
Hospital since it opened its first
booth in 1919.
The Fair, which has grown
tremendously since those begin
ning days, now is run by 3,000

concessions, boutiques and booths.
Some of the specialty items,
many available only at the Fair,
include dresses, skirts and slacks
appliqued with horses and hounds,
fine gold jewelry exquisitely
molded into bits or stirrups,
glassware painted with a sporting
motif and fine paintings.
The Battle Color Ceremony
features the Marine Drum and
Bugle Corps performing a 15-
minute concert in motion, the
Silent Drill Platoon executing their
intricate 10-minute drill routine
and the ceremonial Color Guard
passing in review.
This very special display of
military pomp will be presented
Wednesday at 8 P.M.
The Valley Forge Military
Academy Mounted Drill Team
performs the complicated
movements of their musical ride
Sunday evening. The Drill is
preceded by a concert by the
Academy Marching Band and
escorted by the Honor Guard of the
Anthony Wayne Legion.
Devon Horse Show boasts the
greatest variety of any outdoor
show, featuring competition .
between breeds ranging from
Thoroughbred Hunters and
Jumpers to the unique American
bred Three and Five-Gaited Saddle
