Pa. Grange Cookbook available on computer tape

NAZARETH The Pennsylvania
Grange’s new cookbook contains
all the vital ingredients - ap
petizers and beverages, soups,
salads, casseroles, jellies and
desserts - but it comes with a new
twist. This cookbook will be
available on computer tape for
those cooks who have access to
home computer systems.
Miriam Forney, cookbook
committee chairman, said the
publisher suggested they offer the
cookbook on computer tape as an
additional selling point. Putting
the book on tape will also make it
easier for future editions,
eliminating the need to proofread
each time the book is published,
said Ed Borris, of E.M. Bonis
Graphic Design, the company that
is working with the Grange on this
project.
In the past the Grange has
successfully marketed three other
cookbooks. Their first cookbook,
published in 1925, was a 167-page
washable book that soon became a
best seller. Proceeds from the book
reached $12,600 and went toward
building a dormatory for students
at Penn State University.
Because the first book was so
successful, the women’s activities
committee printed a second edition
in 1951 to gain funds for a new
headquarters building.
Grange homemakers were again
asked to submit recipes in 1971.
This third edition went through
seven printings and continues to
sell thousands of copies each year.
This latest cookbook, which is
scheduled for final publication m
June, contains 1,500 recipes sub
mitted by Grange members.

The Grange published its first cookbook in 1925 and went on to produce two more
because of their success. They are currently working on their fourth edition.
The Pennsylvania Grange’s fourth cookbook is scheduled
for publication early in June. A unique feature of the cook
book is that it will be offered on computer tape.
