Fies, Eberly named
Lebanon County
Star Farmers
ANVILLE A member of the
Anville-Cleona Future Farmers of
America Chapter was named the
Lebanon County Star
Agribusinessman while an Elco
Chapter FFA member was named
County Star Farmer at the
county’s recognition banquet held
May 10.
Todd Fies, the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Harry Fies, R 4 Lebanon, was
named Star Agribusinessman,
while Bryan Eberly, the son of Mr.
and Mrs. Raeu Eberly, R 1
Newmanstown, was named County
Star Farmer.
Fies, who serves as president of
the Lebanon County FFA Chapter,
has emphasized tasks and skills in
his agribusiness program. This has
been accomplished mainly while
working with his father on
refinishing and restoring vintage
Chevrolets. Other FFA projects
included field com and soybeans.
This past March, Fies began
working at the Lebanon Agway as
a mechanic. He also works in the
parts department.
A junior at Eastern Lebanon
County High School, Eberly is
currently vice president of his FFA
Chapter. His projects have in
cluded a 162,000-bird broiler
operation, 20 to 30 head of beef, 20
acres of com and 15 acres of mixed
hay.
Eberly has competed on the
parliamentary procedures team
and in the extemporaneous
speaking contest. He has served as

chapter salesmen for the Ways and
Means Committee.
Also recognized were county
proficiency winners Heidi Peiffer
and Ann Lansberry of Cedar Crest
High School. Miss Peiffer received
a first place in the state
floriculture contest, and Miss
La ns berry was second in the state
horse proficiency category.
Named the 1983-1984 Lebanon
County Honorary Degree can
didates were Kay Campbell,
Anville-Cleona; Earl Buffenmyer,
Lebanon Vo-Tech; Shawn Hemley,
Northern Lebanon; Grant KraU,
Cedar Crest; John E. Weaver,
Elco; and Ben Bow, county at
large.
Keystone Farmer Degree
winners were Karl Brandt, Tom
Inman and Todd Fies, Anville-
Cleona; Heather Hernley, Nor
thern Lebanon; Heidi Peiffer, Rick
Houser and Jeff Zuck, Cedar
Crest; and Dale Weaver, Elco.
Citation Awards were presented
to Agway Inc. and the Lebanon
Chamber of Commerce.
The top three winners in the
various county judging contests
are as follows :
Meat Judging - Gene Ditzler,
Northern Lebanon; Gale Hitz,
Cedar Crest; and Kevin Miller,
Northern Lebanon.
