Chester County Sheep and Wool Growers elect officers BY JACK HURLEY ATGLEN Election of officers highlighted the second meeting of the newly organized Chester County Sheep and Wool Growers Association on Thursday evening. Held on the farm of Bill and Joan MacCauley of Atglen, the meeting attracted nearly 60 sheep fanciers from around the county. Penn State sheep specialist, Dr. Clair Engle, began the meeting with a seminar on market lambs. Dr. Engle described techniques for successful direct and ethnic marketing, as well as commercial marketing. The hands-on seminar gave participants an -opportunity to evaluate a pen of market lambs in terms of conformation and degree of finish. County ex tension agent Cheryl Fairbaim explained planting procedures as Penn State agronomist Lynn Hoffman utilized a no-till planter to sow turnips and rape into a portion of the MacCauley sheep pasture. Following a lamb dinner, nominations were held,with the membership selecting four officers and three board members. The organization’s officers are: president, Annette Menhennett, Cochranville; vice president, David Lytle, New London; treasurer, Tom Mc- Caffrey, Downingtown; secretary, Bobbie Leis, Oxford.
