A2B—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, May 19,1984 Lancaster Farm, Home Center grants Scholarships BY SALLY BAIR Staff Correspondent LANCASTER - Twenty scholarships worth $20,000 were awarded this week by the Lan caster County Farm and Home Foundation to high school seniors planning to study home economics, agriculture and nursing. The awards are worth $l,OOO each for the freshman year of study. The 20 were selected from a field of 50 applicants from lancaster County schools, and were judged on the basis of financial need, scholarship and leadership. Seven of the 20 will major in some form of agriculture, four will study home economics and nine will study nursing. This is the highest monetary award given by the Foundation since it began awarding scholarships. Increased from $750 last year, the Board felt the higher amount is necessary in light of increased costs of higher education. The money for the agriculture and home economics scholarships comes from a trust established by the late Elmer L. Esbenshade, on whose land the Farm and Home Center now stands, and the money from the nursing scholarships is given from the Foundation treasury. Students who received the scholarships are: P.
