As an aware consumer, how can
you tell the real thing from com
mercial hype?
Davidson offers the following
advice:
One of the most crucial steps in a
real IPM program is monitoring a
customer’s property for pests,
weeds and diseases by a trained
IPM scout. If a commercial firm
does not employ trained scouts or
monitors, or if its scouts do not
appear to understand the dif
ference between beneficial and
harmful pests, the firm is not of
fering IPM.
Real IPM programs offer
monitoring services by trained
scouts every 2-3 weeks to catch
developing pest problems.
Says Davidson; “That translates
to an IPM program costing in one
season about the same as three
complete cover sprays by a
commercial firm and without
the unnecessary chemicals.”
