has announced the addition of the
Ro-Till, the world’s first precision
tiller, to his line of farm im
plements. Precision tilling is a new
concept in spring and fall tillage
that completes seedbed
preparation and allows planting in
the same pass through the fields,
thus reducing costs and improving
yields.
Bush Hog’s precision tilling
concept is designed to increase
yields while reducing the need for
fertilizer and irrigation, speed
tillage and planting, reduce tillage
costs by as much as 80 percent and
provide for soil and water con
servation and fuel savings.
The Ro-Till concept has been
proven on hundreds of farms in the
southeast and the midwest,
Weaver said. The patented design
of the machine was purchased
from Leo Hardin, a farmer who
invented the machine and sold it
nationally. It will be marketed by

For more farmers, the Ro-Till
will be the only tillage implement
they will need for both fall and
spring tillage, Weaver said. It
solves the farmer’s problems of
having no replace one worn out
tillage implement after another.
The Ro-Till works by creating a
high yield seedbed concentrated in
rows rather than preparing the
entire area behind the tractor for
planting, Weaver explained. The
high yield seedbed features crop
residue and nitrogen-fixing plants
mixed with the soil in the row
middles for soil, and water con
servation and clear row areas for
good seed to soil contact and sun
warming for early germination.
The planting area can be formed
flat or on a ridge in areas phone to
flooding.
The high yield seedbed also
provides for maximum root
growth by pulverizing the top soil
and breaking the plow pan. All

behind the Ro-Till. Fall tillage is
also accomplished in one pass.
Notched, spring-loaded coulters
break the ground, cut residue and
minimize drag on the subsoil
shanks behind them. The subsoil
shanks create an opening through
the plow pan. A final set of coulters
followed by rolling baskets work
together to mulch any remaining
debris and pulverize the top soil.
These coulters are fluted to work
the pulverized soil into place so
there are no voids left by the
subsoilers that could cause cave
ins. They have separate axles and
are in two different sizes to prevent
plugging. They can be angled
toward the row to create a high
ridge or set to run parallel to the
row to create a flat planting area.
Weaver said the Ro-Till is
designed for easy adjustment for
30 to 40 inch wide rows, soft or hard
ground. The tool bar is located
close to the tractor for easy lifting.
It is available in two, four and
eight-row models.
