The U.S. Department of Agriculture has issued certificates of protection for new varieties of soybean, triticale, cauliflower, marigold and sun flower. James E. Springfield, an official with USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service, said developers of the new varieties will have the exclusive right to reproduce their products in the United States for 18 years. Certificates of protection are granted after a review of the breeders’ records and claims that each new variety is novel, uniform and stable. The newly protected soybean varieties are FFR 560 developed by FFR Cooperative, West Lafayette, Ind.; Deltapine 246 developed by Delta and Pine Land Co., Scott, Miss., and HP 30335, AP 420, and RS 2330, all developed by North American Plant Breeders, Mission, Kan. Triticale varieties protected are Jenkins by ARCO Seed Co., El Centro, Calif., and Nutncale by Fred C. Elliott, Yuma, Ariz. Also protected are White Rock cauliflower developed by Sluis & Groot Research, Enkhuizen, The Netherlands; Janie Flame marigold developed by Goldsmith Seeds, Inc., Gilroy, Calif.; and 554058 sunflower by Stauffer Chemical Co., Westport, Conn.
