APHA names Gold Seal and Gold Trophy award
During the course of the 1983-84
Standard of Perfection (SOP)
show season, 14 Polled Hereford
bulls and females qualified for
Gold Trophy Sire or Dam status.
This is the 17th year the American
Polled Hereford Association
(APHA) has recognized out
standing sires and dams in the
Gold Trophy program, and a total
of 84 bulls and 128 cows have
qualified for the prestigious
award.
The four new additions to the
Gold Trophy Sire list and their

WINCHESTER, VA. - The Ap
ple Valley Sheep Producers Club’s
second FF A and 4-H club lamb sale
takes place today at 1:00 p.m. at
the Frederick County
Fairgrounds, in Winchester,
Virginia.
- Last year’s sale featured 31
lambs with an average weight of 75
pounds. The average price per
pound was $.85 with the high sell
ing animal going for $1.40 per
pound.

Coppertone F Sara extended her
lead in 1983-84 as the pacesetter in
the Gold Trophy Dam point
rankings. This marks her third
year in the top position. She netted
48 SOP points in 1983-84 for a grand
total of 256 points, giving her a
host sale today
Apple Valley Club was formed in
March, 1982. Composed largely of
family units, the club’s member
ship is drawn from the Virginia
counties of Clarke. Frederick and
Warren, with members also
located in West Virginia and
Maryland.
The club will also sponsor a
breeding ewe and ram sale on July
18.
