B2o—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, May 5,1984 “Pee-Uuu!” Brett Johnson says, plugging his nose shut with two fingers during a tour of the Rutt’s pig barn. Jim and Ruth Rutt hosted Brett and the rest of his nursery school class from Elizabethtown Church of the Brethren at their 123-acre dairy farm this week. '*4 While all the other animals on the farm were interesting, the two-day old kittens nestled in a bed of straw drew the most attention. In an exchange time after the tour, nearly every child said his favorite part of the tour was the mother cat and her kittens. im holds a squealing pig, giving the kids a chance to touch it. Jim and Ruth ladle cold, fresh milk from a container for the group's snack. Earlier in the morning, the kids watched the Putt’s milk several of their 60 cows and peered into the 1,000 gallon storage tank where the milk is cooled. Jim started his tractor and gave each child an opportunity to sit in the seat, rev the engine and honk the horn. Here, Brett Johnson enjoys his turn in the driver's seat while the rest of his classmates imitate the tractor's roaring sound. Jeb Boyer, left, and Ryan Seigrist, enjoy a cup of cold, fresh milk with their popcorn after their eventful morning. This was the first time many of these children had been on a farm.
