CHAMBERSBURG - The
Pennsylvania Guernsey
Association sponsored two cattle
sales April 21 at the Guernsey
Pavilion in Lancaster with a strong
response reported by the buyers,
according to Ruth Ann John.
Mrs. John, the association’s
assistant business manager, said
the sales, the 6th Blue Halter Calf
Sale and the Her Ra Guernsey
Complete Dispersal, met with a
strong response from the buyers
and indicated that the demand for
Guernseys is on the increase.
With the milk diversion program
underway, Mrs. John said it was
unsure if farmers would be in the
market to buy. However, she noted
that an increasing trend in the Mid-
West to buy Guernseys is now
being felt in Pennsylvania.
The Blue Halter Calf Sale
averaged $880.35 per head and was
comparable to last year’s sale,
Mrs. John said. The 14 head sold
for a total $12,325.
The top selling animal, at $2,300,
was consigned by Kenneth B.
Garber, Willow Street, and was
bought by Kenneth Forster, On
tario, Canada. An October 1983
calf, Willows Telestar Candy, was
sired by Maurana Wis Telestar.
Her dam, Willows Choice Crystal,
had a three-year record of 15,590
pounds of milk and 788 pounds of
fat.
Second high seller was Cmmdale
Chiefs Domino, consigned by
Richard Staner, Windsor. The
September 1983 calf was bought by
Leroy Lindley, Hamilton, Ohio, for
|1,250. The calf was sired by
Cmmdale Charmaines Chief.
Third high seller was another
September 1983 calf. Consigned by
Marilyn Orner, Rockton, Summit
Farms Janells Jessie was bought

and York counties and in northern
Maryland.
A member of a family of 13
children, the feed company owner
noted that he felt the heifer
drawing was just a way to help
youngsters make a start in the ag
industry.
Special thanks was extended
during the drawing program to the
Larry Wilkinson family of Get
tysburg for “babysitting” the
heifer since the calf sale, and to
York 4-H dairy leader Shirley
Trimmer, who helped organize the
contest.
“Be proud of your parents and
leaders,” Hamilton advised, in
wrapping up the drawing for the
several dozen youngsters who
gathered with their parents and
leaders at the Hanover mill.
Pa. Guernsey Association holds sales
by Douglas McCullough, Newville,
for $950. The calf was sired by Co
Hills Farms TH Big Tex.
The Her Ra Guernsey Complete
Dispersal averaged $842.80 on 68
head of cattle. The sale totaled
$55,625. The Her Ra Guernsey herd
was owned by Herman Gmder, Mt.
Joy.
The high seller was Oswevalley
Fayvors Lillian, a 5-year-old sired
by Housleys Dari Fayvor. Donald
Fox, owner of Glad Run Farm,
Enon Valley, was the buyer. At
