Simmental Assoc, registers 900,000 th animal
A horned purebred Simmental
heifer owned and raised by the
U.S. Meat Animal Research
Center (MARC), Clay Center,
Nebr., has been issued registration
certificate number 900,000 by the
American Simmental Association
(ASA).
The registration certificate,
issued on March 16, 1984,
represents a significant milestone
for the American Simmental
Assocation since the breed’s in
troduction to North America in
1967. In 1975 and 1979 the
association registered its 250,000 th
and 500,000 th animals.

The heifer, named Marc Teresa,
was born April 3,1983 and sired by
Marc Titan, a son of Signal. Signal
is known throughout the beef in
dustry as a genetic trait leader in
calving ease, weaning weight,
yearling weight, and carcass
value.

Tradition 314, the show’s grand
champion female, and RRH
Sundance 5682, named reserve
grand champion bull.
A March 1983 daughter of Nupar
Tradition 113 N, Miss Tradition was
consigned by Green Pastures
Farm, Berlin Center, Okla., and
purchased by Meadowland Farm,
of Andover, Ohio.
Consigned by Roy Hunt, of
Portersville, RRH Sundance was
purchased by Schiffer Purity, of
Oil City. The two-year-old was
sired by Wildcat Sundance 7K.
The show’s reserve champion
female was owned by D. Dale
Hartzell of Butler. DDH Victor
Lynn 016, a January, 1979 daughter
of RWJ Victor J 3 168, was sold to
William L. Dunn of Cochranton, for
$750. A Junior Association
member, Dunn also bought the
most animals, purchasing three

The sale’s eight bulls averaged
$683.75, with the 24 females
averaging $487.92. The total sale
average for the 32 head consigned
was $536.87, with most animals
going to Pa. and Ohio.
Three members of the sale
committee responsible for this
year’s event were Roy Hunt of
Portersville, and Jack Bestwick
and Thomas McCullough, both of
Mercer.
The sale was clerked by Ernie
Smith, area 12 coordinator for the
American Polled Hereford
Association, with Penn State
graduate student, Ken Winebark,
acting as show judge,
John “Red” Shaw, from Mt.
Vernon, Ohio, was the sale’s
auctioneer, with Don and Lloyd
Braham, of Grove City, acting as
