Representatives from several Pennsylvania cooperatives told the students and their advisors about their individual cooperatives and answered the students’ questions. One message the represen tatives were trying to com municate was that cooperative members must take an interest in the cooperative for it to be suc cessful, said Gerald Phillips from Farm Credit Service. Cooperatives are one business where members have complete control, he said. Cooperative representatives included: Dean CLaycomb from Agway, Inc.; David H. Zim merman from Atlantic Breeders Cooperative; Andrew A. Marvin of LEASING Up To 60 Months Inter-State Milk Producers Cooperative; Daniel Martin of Eastern Milk Producers Cooperative; Gerald H. Phillips of Farm Credit Service; Richard Hess of Lehigh Valley Farmers Cooperative and Williard Oden welder of Sire-Power, Inc. The morning started with a film titled “Cooperatives - The Far mers Way.” Later in the morning the group saw a slide presentation and heard a panel discussion by the Lancaster County Co-op Council. Later in the day each student took a “Co-op Quiz” which would be used to select finalists to attend a four-day Summer Institute at Juniata College in July. Each student also filled out an Activities Report that would be used to help select the students who will attend the Summer In stitute.
