    Pa. Ayrshire herds receive national honors

COLUMBUS, Ohio Ardrossan
Farms, Villanova, received
several of the top awards
presented at the 109th National
Ayrshire Meeting held in
Columbus, Ohio, earlier this
month.
Ardrossan Farms owner Mrs.
Edgar Scott, who celebrated her
83rd birthday April 10, was unable
to attend the meeting, however,

Winning the French Trophy for
highest herd production (100 cows
or more) compiled in 1983, Ar
drossan Farms averaged 19,465
pounds of milk and 806 pounds of
fat on 108 head of cattle. One of the
nation’s leading Ayrshire herds,
Ardrossan also received their 24th
Constructive Breeder Award for
having a herd 100 percent bred by
owner.

Leading up to these prestigious
honors, Ardrossan Ex Weezie
received a 150,000 pound cer
tificate for producing 165,450
pounds of milk at a 4.0 percent fat
test for a total 6,643 pounds of fat.
Seven other herd mates received
certificates for 100,000-pound
production records.
Ardrossan also captured four of
the six 25,000-pound production
records, along with 25 cows
receiving 20,000-pound record
certificates.

The herd was recognized for
individual all-time class leaders in
the five to 10-year-olds category,
senior 4-year-olds, senior 3-year
olds, junior 3-year-olds and senior
2-year-olds. Ardrossan took second
in junior 4-year-olds, fifth in junior
2-year-olds and 12th in the 10-year
olds and over class.
Ardrossan Farms is enrolled in
the PTE programs and is a
member of the 25 Club for having
registered 61 Ayrshires with the
association during 1983.

herd awards presented to:
Masonic Homes, Elizabethtown,
110 cows; Ann L. Young, West
Grove, 85 cows; Charles H. Gable,
Elverson, 64 cows; James W.
Martin, Stevens, 37 cows; and
Richard M. Lyons, Cochranton, 3
cows.
The 100,000-pound milk cer
tificates went to Charles Gable,
Ann L. Young, Masonic Homes,
Earl Keefer and Donald Shetterly,
Kennard E. Henley 111 and Harold
Kulp.

presented to Robert and Sharon
Nolan, junior 4-year-old, and
James W. Martin and Warren A.
Schmuck, the yearling division.
Constructive breeder awards
were also issued to Charles Gable,
26 years, 15,557 pounds of milk and
639 pounds of fat on 64 cows, and
James W. Martin, six years, 15,382
pounds of milk and 612 pounds of
fat on 33 cows.
Pennsylvania members
belonging to the 25 Club include
Masonic Homes, 42 head; Charles
Gable, 36 head; Ann Young, 35
head; James Baker, Rockwood, 27
head; and Mary and Cletus
Rhodes, Alexandria, 25 head.
