Columbia-Luzerne Holstein elects officers LIGHTSTREET - The Columbia-Luzerne Holstein Club held its annual dinner meeting recently at the Lightstreet Grange Hall. Almost 100 members and guests enjoyed the milk punch and cheese served by Dairy Princess Karen Bissinger and dinner served by the Grange members. Karen spoke of the Dairy Princess Pageant to be held in June and encouraged in terested girls to apply. Diane Bowen Bliss, of the Pa. Holstein Assn., spoke of upcoming events of the Association and discussed plans of the Pa. Junior Holstein Assn. Roberta Bronson, of Sire Power, Tunkhannock, presented an in formative slide show detailing their methods of selection and handling of bulls in their A.I. program. Director Ralph Sands recognized the fine entries in the outstanding Junior Member Contest. Following the Hereford was TJH Powerplay, an Angus bull owned by Tim Hoffman, manager of Hoffman’s Angus Farm in Dover. A March, 1981 PS Power Play son, TJH Power Play was named 1982 Reserve Calf Champion at the Pa. Farm Show, and was Grand Champion and Supreme Champion over all breeds at the 1983 York Fair. The bull will be offered for sale at the Pa. Angus Association’s “First Edition” registered bull sale in Waynesburg on April 13. The final bull to join the festivities was Mr. Excell, a Charolais owned by Ray and Mary Grimes of McKnightstown. An April, 1982 son of RCC Mr. Ex pectation and Miss Chief 331, both owned by Ray Bratton of Mc- Veytown, Excell was the top gaming bull during the 1983 Penn State Bull Test, gaining 4.32 pounds a day, with a frame score of seven. Entered in eight shows during 1983, Excell was named Grand Champion in seven, and garnered Grand Champion honors at this year’s Pa. Farm Show.
