PACCAR won the award for their Parts Distribution Center which features creative .landscaping and site work and includes a storm water basin. PACCAR, an international, multi-divisional company, manufactures trucks, railcars, mining equipment and winches. Its distribution center covers seven acres with the building itself located on just one and a half acres. The storm water basin on the site was designed to control peak after-development discharge to the pre-development rate. Accepting the award for PAC CAR were representative David Childs, East Hempfield Township manager B.L. Greider and Robert Derek, representing the landscape architecture firm of McCloud, Scatchard, Derek and Edson, Lititz. Neil Sampson, a noted writer and photograper who authored conservation books, “Look to the Land” and “Far mland or Wasteland; A Time to Choose.” Sampson, a graduate of the University of Idaho with a degree in agronomy and a masters in public relations from Harvard University, has worked with the Soil Conservation Service and speaks highly of the need for continued conservation practices. On a state level, Sampson said more attention to conservation practices is needed. “We need more on conservation practices to help push us toward profitable measures to lead to increased production,” he said.
