Johnstown, Pa. 814-266-9721 Dairy farmers to receive $12.79 for February milk NEW YORK, NY - Dairy far mers who supplied milk plants regulated under the New York- New Jersey marketing orders during February 1984 will be paid on the basis of a uniform price of $12.79 per hundredweight (27.5 cents per quart). Market Administrator Thomas A. Wilson also stated that the price was $12.99 in January 1984 and $13.35 in February 1983. The uniform price is a marketwide weighted average of the value of farm milk used for fluid and manufactured dairy products. The seasonal incentive plan does not affect the uniform price for the month of February. A total of 17,033 dairy farmers supplied the New York-New Jersey Milk Marketing Area with 927,547,466 pounds of milk during February 1984. This was an in crease of 4.9 percent - about 43 million pounds - from last year. Since 1984 is a leap year, February had 29 days. Regulated milk dealers (han dlers) used 357,727,653 pounds of milk for Class 1,38.6 percent of the total. This milk is used for fluid milk products such as homogenized, flavored, low test and skim milks. For February 1984, handlers paid $14.36 per hundredweight (30.9 cents per quart) for Class I milk compared with $14.87 a year ago. The balance (569,819,813 pounds or 61.4 percent) was used to manufacture Class II products including butter, cheese, ice cream and yogurt. Handlers paid $12.08 per hundredweight for this milk. The uniform price is based on milk containing 3.5 percent but terfat. For February 1984, there was a price differential of 16.2 cents for each one-tenth of one percent that the milk tested above or below the 3.5 percent standard. All prices quoted are for bulk tank milk received within the 201- 210 mile zone from New York City.
