KUTZTOWN - The Kutztown
FFA and Young Farmers honored
their outstanding members on
Monday, March 26, at the Kutz
town Grange Hall. The large
chapter attendance gave evidence
that area agriculture is important.
Two Star Greenhand plaques
were awarded to two ninth graders
with a long list of plans for the
upcoming FFA year. Andrew
Murphy, R 2 Kempton, was
awarded Star Greenhand
Production. He is planning on
excelling with market hogs. Neal
Christman, R 1 Kutztown, was
awarded Star Greenhand
Agribusiness. He plans on work
experience with livestock and his
own garden.
Terry Wisser, chapter president,
took the spotlight as he was named
Star Chapter Farmer. Wisser is
the son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl
Wisser. He has 28 animals in his
swine finishing and breeding
operation. Also labeled the
“outstanding senior,” Wisser
received the Dekalb award based
on leadership, scholarship, and
citizenship.
Star Chapter Agribusinessman
went to Scott Mertz, Rl, Kutztown,
a senior this year who did “out
standing work,” according to
advisor Donald Reinert.
Scholarship awards were
presented to Tammy Miller,
Joanne Kunkel, and Jenny Seidel.
The Leadership award went to
Dawn Heiter, Rl Lenhartsville,
who served on over 30 committees
in her FFA career.
The Kutztown Chapter of the
Young Farmers honored David
and Phoebe Bitler, Fleetwood, as
the outstanding young farmer
under 30. The Community Service
award was presented to Mr. and
